2007 Fra Angelico Award RecipientJoeann Daley
Joeann Daley’s work is playful and narrative and is often filled with familiar images of saints, mythological figures as well as iconic sculptural elements. She has worked in etchings, monoprints, lithographs, pasted prints, mixed media and photo collages. Joeann has been recruitment director and coordinator of Studio Art at Rosary Graduate School in Florence and was the founder and first director of Copper Village Museum and Art Center, Anaconda, Montana. |
2006 Fra Angelico Award RecipientPhyllis Mrozinski, OP
For many years Phyllis Morzinski OP had been teaching art and doing art but at age 55 she returned to college to enhance her skills. It was quickly discovered that she had a natural ability for sculpting. She has the capacity to wait for the sculpture to "reveal" itself. Much of her work time is spent in silence and prayer and waiting to bond with the piece. An artist in residence at Dominican Center at Marywood in Grand Rapids, MI, her works line the halls. Bronze figures of hers can be located at Marywood, St. Thomas School, and Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. A lifesize sculpture of St. Dominic is in the process of being bronzed. A limestone sculpture of St. Thomas Aquinas is located at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. |
2005 Fra Angelico Award RecipientThoma Swanson, OP
Thoma Swanson OP is a Dominican artist, scholar and teacher, who has devoted her life to preaching the gospel through her artwork. Her art ranges from woodcuts to paintings, from murals to tapestries. However, she is best known for her stained glass windows. In Chimbote, Peru, Thoma organized small groups of women to create and sell needlework and other handcrafts at fair-trade prices. The message of her work is that art is "a rejoicing in the beauty of the world. Without it, our lives are very empty and cold and boring." |
2004 Fra Angelico Award RecipientAdele Myers, OP
Adele Myers, OP creates relief and freestanding sculpture using cement and fresco. Her work is exhibited throughout the east and is included in public and private collections. She also designs stained-glass windows and mosaics. Adele's Via Dolorosa, a cement and fresco Way of the Cross, can be seen at St. Thomas Aquinas College's chapel in Sparkill, NY. Adele's preaching spirit can be witnessed in her use of form and color. |

Barbara Chenicek OP and Rita Schiltz OP have been working together for years creating sacred space that utilizes lighting and structure to produce a contemplative atmosphere. The designs of worship environments emanating from their studio are marked by simplicity of form and focus. Their home base, INAI Studio is located in Adrian, MI. A walk through their studio is a walk into a contemplative and holy space. Their work is known internationally. |

Armando Ibanez, OP is a talented writer whose poetry speaks of the existential meaning of life with an open heart. He calls himself a poet who through the magic of the written word, transmits hope to the heart of many. Armando’s poet’s heart has led him to found a production company, Pluma Productions, which is dedicated to producing high quality projects, both documentaries and narratives, with sound Judeo-Christian values. |
2001 Fra Angelico Award RecipientMary Peter Tremonte, OP
Mary Peter Tremonte OP, a Dominican Sister from Houston TX, was a sculptor and liturgical designer whose work is found in over 60 churches throughout the country. Founder of the Dominican Institute of the Fine Arts in Florence, Mary Peter included in her works over 22 life size or larger than life size sculptures, stained glass pieces, twelve large bas reliefs in bronze or marble, and other works too numerous to mention. |
2001 Fra Angelico Award RecipientKathleen Harkins, OP Kathleen Harkins OP was a Dominican Sister from Adrian MI nationally known for her one-woman shows of Catherine of Siena, Julian of Norwich, Trudy the Bag Lady and many more. Her preaching of the Word of God through story was a joy to behold. |
2000 Fra Angelico Award RecipientJames Marchionda, OP
James V. Marchionda has composed and published over 100 sacred music compositions. His ministry successfully combines preaching with a professional career in sacred music. He has recorded many DVDs of his compositions and much of his music is used in churches throughout the United States and beyond. |
1999 Fra Angelico Award RecipientStephana Toomey, OP
Stephana Toomey OP, a Dominican Sister from Elkins Park PA, founded Efhaisto Studio in Baltimore in 1976. She carries out the Dominican Charism of preaching through the language of the liturgical arts and consultation. She has been a consultant and designer for church interiors of all beliefs, chapels of religious orders and educational institutions. Her work has won multiple awards. |
1998 Fra Angelico Award RecipientAdele Rowland, OP
A pioneer in the fine art of color photomontage, Adele Rowland OP produces stunningly realized images that employ a delicate counter-pointing quality. Her artwork strives to present a living, coherent whole based on the genuine relationship between juxtaposed elements. Speaking of her work, Adele states that her art makes "surprising visual statements about the complex nature of reality, develop in the viewer fresh perceptions, and not infrequently, reawaken an awareness of the Divine." |
